The Interplast team has been working hard throughout the 2023-2024 Rotary year, after not being able to do so thru the Covid 19 Pandemic period. It has been great to be able to present the Interplast story to 40 clubs throughout the year and our CEO Cameron Glover spoke extremely well at the District 9510 Conference in Loxton.
We have travelled to Port Pirie, Northern Yorke Peninsula, Victor Harbour, Goolwa and a lot of suburban clubs and each club has welcomed us and appreciated the Interplast update.
Interplast was formed 41 years ago and our main focus as we move forward is to offer,
SURGERY CARE TRAINING.
We send surgical teams and training teams into the Asia Pacific Region and operate on all aged people, from babies a few months old to people up to 90 years old for Cleft lip and Palate ops to burns contractures, to surgical treatment for benign or malignant tumors and more.
The Interplast team has raised over $25,000 this year from donations from clubs we have visited in our district.
After speaking with our CEO Cameron Glover it was decided that future monies raised in our District will be directed into Bhutan to assist with future team visits and or special projects helping Bhutanese people.
Dr. Sonan Jamtshso, who completed his Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training here in Adelaide and now returned to be the only qualified Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon in Bhutan is extremely grateful for the future support being planned for his country.
A surgical team has recently spent 2 weeks in Thimphu and the teams focus was to deliver quality, specialised patient care, while also providing training and mentoring to local clinical personnel, both in the operating theatre, on the wards and in outpatient and rehabilitation clinics.
The volunteer team consisted of 2 plastic surgeons, 1 anaesthetist, 2 nurses and 2 hand therapists from South Australia and Victoria.
The Interplast team achieved the following
72 patient consultations
38 surgeries performed, with Cleft lip & palate, burns, Upper limb reconstruction, and others
9 clinicians trained
Patients aged between 8 months and 69 years treated
43% of patients operated on were female
100+ hand therapy consultations and treatments provided.
Marie Dorrington OAM and myself thank the Morphett Vale Rotary Club members for their support and we look forward to your continued support in the future.
