What is a 'Repair Cafe'
A Repair Cafe is a monthly free, open community event aiming to divert items from landfill, pass on valuable repairing knowledge, and connect community.
Knives need sharpening? Electrical item not working? pruning shears stuck or just need a new screw in a pair of glasses. A repair cafe may be just what you want.

How did they begin?
In 2009, Martine Postma, a Dutch journalist with an interest in driving local-level sustainability, introduced the Repair Café in Amsterdam. On 18 October 2009, the first Repair Café was held at Fijnhout Theater, Amsterdam-West and now over 1,500 voluntary groups organise them worldwide under this brand.

Touching stroke story
Most of us have heard about strokes but few have experienced them personally. Karyn Kennedy awed members with her personal story and gave a better understanding of what it is, how they can vary from person to person and what to check for if you or another may be experiencing a stroke.
Facial drooping, word slurring, and weakness on one side of the body may be early signs of a stroke. Other possible stroke symptoms may include an intense and sudden headache, confusion, loss of balance, and changes in vision.
One thing Karyn was definite about...
A stroke is a medical emergency

It’s important to always seek immediate medical help if you suspect any symptoms of a stroke. Don’t wait for these to “get better.”

If you get to a hospital within 2 hours of experiencing the first symptoms of a stroke, you may significantly improve your outlook and reduce the chance of permanent brain damage.

President Phil thanked Karyn for sharing her experiences.
