A President's delightful duty.
This is the part of Rotary that I really enjoy. Today I met Shirley. Shirley is an elderly lady who lives close by to colonnades, she uses a gopher as her only mode of transport. Sometime this week she was at colonnades buying some little bits and pieces. Minding her own business but thinking to herself that she hadn't seen any raffles around lately.
Driving herself out of Big W, she spotted our basket on the gift wrapping table so approached and although she didn't want any gift wrapping done, bought 5 tickets in the raffle.
Today I had the privilege of telling her she had won our raffle. Shirley was over the moon. This basket meant more than the sum of its parts to her. It meant being able to sit with family and share its contents over a laugh and a story about how she came across it. How the basket was perfectly catered to being able to share (Bunnings gift cards for her son, teddy bear for grandchild etc)
I left Shirley's modest little unit in such a happy mood, grateful that we were able to create hope in just one more life this Xmas season.
Merry Xmas to all members of our amazing little club, to your families immediate and extended too. I hope you all have a great break and return in 2024 reinvigorated to continue the great work we do in our community.
