Rotary has a role to play in addressing discrimination wherever it occurs.
IDAHOBIT stands for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia. It is celebrated annually on May 17th and aims to raise awareness and combat discrimination faced by the LGBTQIA+ community globally. This day is a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equal rights and respect for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
President Phil and Marion from the Rotary Community Team spoke to students at Christies Beach High School and encouraged them to respond on a coloured note about how they would stand firm against discrimination on IDAHOBIT Day at the school.
The day also gave students the opportunity to talk to a person from a different generation about what discrimination was like in their day.
