Visiting other Rotary Clubs enables members to experience Rotary done differently. Dini, Cheryle, Merilyn and Marion were invited to the Rotary Club of Goolwa to hear speaker Robin Noakes from the Rotary Club of Moe talk about his experience with the Western Australian based 'Wheelchairs for kids' project. https://wheelchairsforkids.org/Robin's enthusiasm was evident as he described the project, its volunteers and impact across the world. He was especially keen to 'get kids out of the dirt'. Many disabled children in developing countries have no alternative but to sit in the dirt outside or lie on beds inside a house for their food, learning and exercise opportunities. Sitting in an adjustable, mobile chair suited to their living conditions with a tray for food and writing or playing immediately puts them level with their peers. Chairs are designed to suit a child from 5 to 15 and comes with 2 small rugs and soft toys. To date more than 64,000 chairs have been specially fitted to children in need all over the world. This project was the brainchild of Australia's 2025 Senior of the year Brother Thomas Oliver Pickett AM who now heads a workshop of more than 250 volunteers who produce these life changing chairs for only $275 per chair.
