NOTES FOR MEETING 110, MAY 18, 2022

Meeting opened 7.03 PM
Welcome: Merilyn Welcomed 18 members present, Ian and Chris on Zoom and 1 guest Betty to meeting 111 OUR OPEN FORUM
Apologies: Grant, Gaynor, Susan, Garry, Rosemary and Jodie.
Dini, Joy, Ray and Terry arrived later in the meeting bearing gifts after representing RCMV at Noarlunga Bunnings Community Presentation.
Marion presented information about our newsletter explaining how to get the best from this twice monthly publication.
Phil presented on our Rotary Youth Exchange Program which is now operational after international travel was banned due to Covid.
Christine explained the state of our finances and members asked about the various accounts and their uses.
Joy outlined the projects undertaken by the Community Commitee.
Dini gave us good news about the Rotary Hall kitchen
Terry explained where the International budget was spent and how our club assisted emergencies like the NSW/Qld floods and the Ukraine War.
Merilyn reported on
“Lift the Lid on Mental Health: Last Board meeting it was decided to increase the donation amount to $265 which has been forwarded to Australian Rotary Health.
Knit and Natter May 25, Rotary Hall. Do you know someone who needs a couple of hours company and a cuppa?? Flyers are on the table, please take one and invite them along.
Guess Who’s coming to Dinner. Thank you Raelene for organising this event. Members involved enjoyed a great night. Thank you to hosts Phil and Helen Pfeiffer, Sue and AB Arbuthnott.
Saturday, May 28 visit to DIK. Roster is here if you haven’t already added your name to the list, please do so, so the group knows you are planning to travel with them.
Junction Family Fun Day, Saturday, May 21. We will be cooking for 400 people for this group at Warsaw Avenue Park. Thank you to the members who have agreed to do this for us. I received a call today from Tammy who now wants onions cooked with the sausages, they will supply.
Tammy also asked if we could cook Pancakes, this would involve another BBQ to be supplied and 4 more volunteers on the day.
Bunnings BBQ: Sunday, June 5. Any questions to Phil Pfeiffer who is organising this BBQ, thank you all for your support for Phil’s efforts. Phil, we can take up the offer from Nat Cook to pay for the bread on the day, I will confirm this once I receive a response to my email to Nat today.
Saturday, July 2 BBQ will be organised by Mark Simpson
Saturday, August 20 will be organised by Dini Whyte
Thank you to all of our organisers, after that we will be asking for volunteers to organise future BBQ’s once we have the dates.
Beanie Sale, Saturday, June 25 at Southgate Plaza. Money raised with year will support Spirit of Women. Flyers are on the table, please promote this day and a huge thankyou to the people who have been donating to this project.
Scatter meeting, Wednesday, June 1. On this night all members are invited to choose a Rotary Club to visit. This is a great way to meet new Rotarians in our organisation. My suggestion is that 2-4 members join together to visit a club, but please ensure you have advised the club of your choice that you are coming to their meeting and how many members will be attending. I have sent the club information to you all, please organise to visit a club of your choice with some other members and have fun. I have some copies here if anyone requires them.
Mothers Day Raffle results: Total money raised $7,680, of which $4220 has been paid to the participating local community groups. This is the money they each raised selling tickets. By these groups being involved selling tickets enables them to be involved and earn their donation from Rotary. These groups love the way this works and look forward to our next raffle.
After Club expenses, we will have $2,800 for the club funds.
PEACE POLE: We need to order our Peace Pole ready to installation in the garden at Rotary Hall. We will be purchasing the Peace Pole this week and Rod Whyte has kindly agreed to put the 4 x 45 degree angles on the top of the pole. We will then have to varnish the pole before it can be installed in the middle of our Rotary wheel in the garden at Rotary Hall.
We have to decide which 4 languages we want the message to be in:
MAY PEACE PREVAIL ON EARTH.

Ian remarked on the unsuitability of Zoom for group meetings.
Chris raised $30 for the Rotary Foundation via his birthday crowdfunding on Facebook.
An issue was raised whereby the board was asked the procedure and choices for donations to community groups. Our by-laws state that all requests for donations are to be presented to the board for consideration. Explanations were given about asking community members to provide help on BBQs for a share of that day's profits versus an official request for funding by a community group.
Members were asked to think about what our club can be known for. A unique fundraising event that raises our profile within the community.
CLOSING REMARKS: Our next meeting is here at SAFC will be Wednesday, June 15, 5.45 pm to order your meals in the Jimmy Deans Bistro and 7 pm for meeting to start.
Our next Board meeting will be held here at SAFC Wednesday, June 8, 6.45 pm for 7 pm start. This is a joint meeting for current board and new board members.
President Merilyn will be away from May 26 returning June 6.
Communication, Cooperation, consideration will continue to grow our Rotary club for the benefit of members and the wider community.
