The Rotary Club of Morphett Vale sponsors a visit each year by the Inclusive Learning Centre students year 9 and 10 classes from Christies Beach High School. We pay for their accommodation, all meals and two special activities during the visit. This year, 3 teachers, the bus driver and 11 students enjoyed warm days learning about native plants and animals from the local indigenous rangers, how to make a boomerang and of course enjoy breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper provided by our Rotary club members.
Upon arriving, the students took a guided tour of the camp. With help from a friendly ranger, they explored the camp’s highlights, including the nursery, an old woolshed and various sheds used for water conservation and native plant restoration. They even received a special visit from the local police. To celebrate Halloween, students enjoyed festive dishes like ‘Spooky Spaghetti’ and ‘Freaky Fruit Salad’, thoughtfully prepared by the Rotary Club. Later, they explored the wetlands, spotting kangaroos, emus, and other signs of native wildlife, like snake tracks.
This camp experience provided a unique chance for students to strengthen friendships, build positive relationships with staff, and learn about staying safe in the community. They had an unforgettable time and returned with memories that will last a lifetime!
